Simone Simons - Isaac Delahaye - Epica - Summer Breeze Open Air 2009

Epica where on during the third day of the festival in the middle of the day. That basicly meant, that it was hot… unbelievable hot and not a lot of people where even able to move any more. Even though the hot conditions, the place in front of the Painstage was packed with people and they seemed to eagerly await the band. After all the pictures I’ve seen before and knowing the stage presents of Simone Simons, I was quite excited about shooting the Band. Even if the other in the band where simply standing in the back, not moving at all, the energetic lady with the red hair would get the crowd wild. Well, Simone didn’t had to do all the work and the others played an amazing gig as well. Lots of action and great posing… I love it, when bands got windmachines on stage.

Shooting Notes

Shooting during the middle of the day with a large stage in the back is always fun. You can turn up the shutter speed, get away with Low ISOs but also get a great lightshow. I normaly shoot with ISO 200 during this time of day to get a shutter speed of 1/400 and an aperture of f3,2 – f4. The gig was shot with the Canon 24-70 and the Canon 70-200.

    Hi Vlien,

thanks a lot, really appreciate it! Working with really fast shutter speeds (like 1/400 to 1/500) nicely freezes the action and gets everything sharp, thats probably the most important thing. Next to that when resizing the images I’ll use a little bit of High Pass filter.
